Venezuela’s Economy Vice President Calixto Ortega indicated that debt restructuring remains a priority and said the government would announce the next steps “very soon,” without providing further details or a specific timeline. Ortega said the publication of the country’s debt sustainability analysis (DSA) had been delayed by two major earthquakes earlier this year. However, the assessment remains a priority, with authorities working to complete the process. Venezuela’s debt is estimated at around $170bn and the country is looking to restructure its obligations after nearly a decade of default. The latest comments follow growing expectations of debt negotiations, with a major creditor group recently increasing its holdings to at least $22bn, representing around 37% of outstanding bonds. Separately, Ortega ruled out full dollarization as a solution for the economy, emphasizing the need to strengthen monetary institutions and support the local currency.
Venezuela’s dollar bonds traded down by 0.3-0.5 points with its 9.25% 2028s trading at 53.7 cents on the dollar.
