SoftBank Group is seeking another $10bn loan to refinance debt linked to its investment in OpenAI. According to a report, the two-year facility would carry an interest margin of ~275bp over SOFR, with Mizuho Bank acting as lead arranger. The proceeds could partly repay a $40bn bridge loan secured earlier this year for the OpenAI investment. SoftBank is expected to invest nearly $65bn in OpenAI by October. The company is also considering a $10-20bn bond sale for additional funding and plans a JPY 1tn ($6.3bn) retail bond sale in Japan. Earlier, SoftBank secured a $10bn loan backed by its OpenAI stake, which includes provisions that could require it to post cash or repay the facility early. The latest borrowing comes as AI companies continue to raise large amounts of debt to fund data centers and other infrastructure.
SoftBank’s bonds traded stable with its 6.25% 2028s at 100.05, yielding 6.21%.
