CoreWeave’s dollar bonds sank further by 3-7 points across the curve amid growing concerns about the sustainability of AI-related investments. The selloff intensified after co-founder Brannin McBee reiterated the company’s ambition to secure investment-grade credit ratings for its chip-backed debt and eventually its corporate credit profile, which would unlock access to a broader pool of institutional funding. However, an analyst warned that CoreWeave’s borrowing costs have become unsustainable, noting the company faces difficulties borrowing even at 9%. CoreWeave’s July loan financing also came at higher-than-targeted rates, adding ~$30mn in annual interest costs. CoreWeave’s CEO Michael Intrator defended the company’s financial position, stating that contracted customer revenue and backlog adequately support its secured debt and unsecured parent-level obligations without requiring contract renewals or collateral re-leasing. He expressed confidence in the company’s customers, execution capabilities and financial discipline, adding that market weakness and delays affecting rival companies’ IPOs and debt financings were spilling over into sentiment toward CoreWeave. The company’s shares fell as much as 15% on Wednesday, their steepest decline since February.
Its recently issued 9.625% 2032s dropped below 78 cents on the dollar, yielding 15.4%.
