Broadcom is said to be in discussions to arrange a large $50bn debt financing to support OpenAI’s purchases of custom AI chips, according to sources. The discussions follow Broadcom’s recent $60bn financing package to support Anthropic’s AI infrastructure expansion. The deal included $42bn of senior secured debt and $18bn of junior debt, with Blackstone leading the junior tranche. Broadcom had earlier partnered with Apollo and Blackstone to finance more than 20GW of computing capacity for AI developers through 2028. Separately, Broadcom expects to supply OpenAI with 5GW of custom chips in 2028. The potential transaction comes as technology companies increasingly rely on debt financing to meet rising AI infrastructure costs. SpaceX is also exploring a $40bn financing to purchase Nvidia chips, while Oracle is in discussions with lenders for similar funding.
Broadcom’s 4.3% 2031s were stable at 94.7, yielding 5.7%.
