Braskem’s dollar bonds dropped by ~1 point across the curve. This followed reports that a group of Braskem’s bondholders submitted a proposal to dilute shareholders as part of its restructuring plan. The bondholders are said to have included Elliott Investment Management and Strategic Value Partners (SVP), according to the Veja magazine. The proposal was presented at a meeting on July 14 with representatives from Braskem and IG4 Capital, the report noted. However, specific terms, including the size of the dilution and the eventual conversion of debt into equity, were not yet known. Braskem recently secured a 60-day court protection against financial debt collections, and had reportedly tightened its commercial terms with its clients aggressively. In late June, debt-restructuring talks between Braskem and its creditors had reached a standstill.
Braskem’s 4.5% 2028s were trading lower by 1 point at 56.9 cents on the dollar.
